Broomfield, Chelmsford is a suburb of the central Essex town and boasts a current population of around 4,000 residents. It is situated approximately two miles to the north of the town and is one of the most popular older residential areas of Chelmsford in which to live.

Formerly a village, Broomfield Chelmsford is home to one of the largest Accident & Emergency hospitals in Essex which includes a nationwide specialist centre for Plastics and Burns. Being a popular residential suburb, it is also home to the highly regarded Chelmer Valley High School, Broomfield Primary School, two pubs, two churches and various local sports teams.

After excavation works carried out by workmen around 130 years ago, Broomfield Chelmsford was discovered to be an important Anglo-Saxon burial site. Following a more extensive search many years later, such items as gold ornament, cups, glassware, buckets & weapons were found, putting it on a par with the more famous sites of Sutton Hoo and Taplow. The artefacts are now housed in the British Museum in London.

Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford

Opened in 1940, Broomfield Hospital was originally known as the Essex County Hospital and was male only patients. Over the years, the hospital has expanded to include an A & E department, pharmacy, CAT scanner, medical academic library, intensive care department, cancer care unit, eye clinic & several other vital health related services.

Recent development has seen completion of a £148M project which was completed at the end of 2010. This included a new Accident & Emergency department, which incorporate facilities to accept the Essex Air Ambulance on a roof top Heli-Pad, a new maternity unit, plus brand new ‘state of the art' hospital wards offering some of the best care for in-patients anywhere in the UK.
