Race for Life Chelmsford

Race for Life Chelmsford is an annual charity event held in Hylands Park in Chelmsford. Over the past few years it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity, Cancer Research UK, as part of series of races nationwide the length and breadth of the country.

This years Race for Life Chelmsford will be held on 22nd July 2012, again at Hylands Park, and will consist of both a 5K race, starting at 11.00am, & a 10K race commencing in the afternoon at 2.30pm. Entrance costs just £14.99 and is open to any female of any age, but under 16's can only register as part of a group and not individually.

Walking, running or jogging? It's up to you. Chelmsford Race for Life is just like the Olympic Games and the two have a similar spirit and ethos - ‘It's the taking part that counts, not the winning!' Being part of the biggest women only fundraising event in the UK is what it is all about, and if you can raise some sponsorship money in the process, even better.

With hundreds of events all over the country throughout the spring and summer, this year's Race for Life target is for one million women to take part. With the support of main sponsor Tesco supermarket, which is celebrating an eleven year association with the event, why not do your part and help reach this ambitious, yet reachable, target? One thing for sure, it is going to full of "amazing moments".

 

Race for Life Chelmsford - How Do I Enter?
Entry can be made online or by calling 0871 641 111, lines are open Mon-Fri 8.30am-8.30pm & Sat & Sun between 9.00am-5.00pm. Entry cost £14.99 per person, and you are permitted to make a group entry as long as you have every member of party's full name, address, email address, date of birth, & emergency contact details. You should note for legal reasons, under 16-year-olds cannot enter individually, but can be included as part of a group registration. Entrants aged 16 and 17 can enter individually, but to enter other participants as part of a group registration, you must be over 18 years of age. Race for Life Chelmsford - When & Where?
This years Race for Life in Chelmsford will take place on 22nd July 2012. There will be two race distances, a 5K race and a 10K race, both starting at 11.00am.

The event will be held in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, just off the A12.

Due to the volume of participants expected, you are advised to use public transport where possible.

 

How Do I Get to Hylands Park, Chelmsford
Car: Use the Hylands Park SatNav postcode CM2 8WQ. From the M25 take junction 28 onto the A12 towards Chelmsford. From the A12 take junction 15 onto the A414 towards Chelmsford and Harlow. Hylands Park is clearly signposted with white on brown tourist signs from this road junction. There will also be special Race for Life directional signage on the day so please follow these to be taken directly to the car parks.

Bus: Use route number 351 from Chelmsford Town Centre and alight at St Mary's Church roundabout on the Widford Industrial Estate

Rail: Chelmsford Train Station is on the London Liverpool Street line and is approximately 3.5 miles from Hylands Park.

Taxi: If you need to get a taxi to Hylands Park from your Chelmsford hotel accommodation or the train station, then there are a number of taxi firms in Chelmsford. The journey is about 3.5 miles from the centre of Chelmsford so should not cost that much, depending on the prevailing traffic conditions.

 

What Do I Need to Bring on Race Day?
You will need to bring a pair of comfortable shoes to compete in, safety pins for your number & back sign (don't forget those too), a bottle of water, sports bra, suntan lotion (hopefully), and a hat. And most important of all, although it's entirely up to you, a pink fancy dress outfit.

 

What Happens When I Get There?
Competitors should arrive no later to the Chelmsford Race for Life than one hour before the scheduled start time. There is no need to check-in. Half an hour before race start, there will be a welcome broadcast to all the runners from the Race for Life team followed by a light aerobic fitness workout. You will then make your way to the start and ten minutes the gun will be fired signalling the start of the race.

After you have crossed the finishing line and completed the race, you will be presented with a Race for Life medal by our volunteers and receive a well deserved goody-bag.

 

Facilities at Chelmsford Race
The Hylands Park event is suitable for wheelchair users with access, and will have refreshments, toilets, first aid, and parking. It is also suitable for pushchairs and buggies and your dogs are welcome.
In addition, there will also be lots of fun for all the family including music, children's stalls, health information stands, and games arenas to make it an extra special day.

 

Race for Life - Other Local Events
If you cannot make the 22nd July 2012 in Chelmsford, but still want to take part, then there are a number of other events in Essex, during May, June and July. Some locations have two events at different times on the same day, some have a choice between a 5K & a 10K race, and other a combination of both. There is also an evening event in Epping.

Race for Life - A Short History
Since its inception in 1994, Race for Life has raised an incredible £362M for Cancer Research UK and seen 5.4 million participants take part. This has been able to provide funding for the work of over 4,000 doctors, nurses, and researchers to help the fight against cancer.

Race for Life is the UK's largest women only fundraising event where all the money raised goes to funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.
