King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford logoKing Edward VI Grammar School (KEGS) in Chelmsford was first established in 1551 under a royal warrant granted by King Edward VI of England and is one of the leading state schools in England. Its status is classified as a High Performing Specialist School in the fields of Science and Language and is a Lead School for the ‘Gifted and Talented'. In its last Ofsted Report in 2006, it was described as an ‘Outstanding School'.

With around 850 students, of which over a third make up a strong & thriving Sixth Form, King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford prides itself on helping each pupil fulfil their potential in a "rigorous and challenging" environment. There is a huge choice of extra curricular activities on offer including sports, music, Drum Corps, Combined Cadet Force, a Young Engineers Club, several school trips, and a chance to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

In addition to specialising in Science and Language (Latin, Russian, German, & French), King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford also covers a number of subjects under the guidance of the national curriculum. Some of the various departments at the school include Drama & Theatre Arts, Technology (electronics, graphic products, & resistant materials), IT, Music, & Business.

On its website, Headteacher, Mr Thomas Sherrington, states that it is a privilege for him to work at King Edward VI Grammar School and that in everything thing the students and staff do, there is a sense of "passion and dynamism". He goes on to say that the schools aim is for "students to enjoy coming to school each day for the sheer love of learning ", and for them to want to be part of the KEGS community experience.

King Edward VI Grammar School can be found in Broomfield Road, less than a mile to the north of Chelmsford town centre.
