Car Boot Sales
There are always several car boot sales taking place every weekend in Chelmsford and the surrounding area. The ‘Big One' is at Boreham, but there are also others at Wheeler's Farm, Lazybones at Rettendon, and Boyton Hall in Roxwell. Why not see if you and Dad can pick up a bargain, and don't forget to treat him to an ice-cream!
Living Heritage Craft Fair
This new Craft, Sculpture and Art Fair will be taking place on the back lawn at Hylands House in Chelmsford. On show will be working craftsmen, designers, artists and the highlight of the show will be an International Chainsaw Carving competition. The Living Heritage Craft Fair is on both Saturday 18 June and Sunday 19 June.
Rose Weekend
If your Dad loves gardening, then RHS Hyde Hall in Rettendon near Chelmsford have a special Rose weekend taking place over the weekend of 18 and 19 June covering all aspects of Britain's national flower. There will be beautiful gardens to enjoy, expert advice available, a chance to buy quality products, and cream teas available.
Open Gardens
Enjoy a stroll around one of the many open gardens in Chelmsford and the surrounding villages. Local open gardens for charity include Snares Hill Cottage, as well as the Gardens of Easton Lodge a few miles away near Great Dunmow.
Chelmsford Miniature Railway
Always a favourite with kids and Dads alike, the Chelmsford Miniature Railway is open every Sunday during the Spring and Summer months for rides. Found in Meteor Way (opposite West Park Pitch & Putt) parking is normally free and refreshments are normally available. For Father's Day on 19th June 2011, there is a special Open Day with extra displays and stationary engines.

Blackwater Country Show
One of the many country shows that the county of Essex does so well is the Blackwater Country Show in Heybridge near Maldon. Now in its sixth year, there will arts and crafts, a dog show, countryside pursuits, ring events, lake based activities, amusements and much more. All funds are donated to the fantastic work of the Essex Air Ambulance.

Go Fishing
If your Dad likes fishing there is a great choice of Chelmsford Angling venues from which to choose. Why not treat him to a day coarse fishing at one of the many waters that offer day tickets, or catch a trout at the beautiful Hanningfield Reservoir just outside the town.
Play Pitch & Putt
If your Dad is a mad keen Golfer, then why not take him on at Chelmsford's only Pitch and Putt venue. West Park Pitch & Putt is situated on Waterhouse Lane, opposite Chelmsford Fire Station, and is great fun for all the family. You can play either 9 or 18 holes on this well maintained, beautiful parkland course, but be warned that it does get busy at peak times. Anyone of any age can play, but there is all a small crazy golf course for the little ones to keep them happy as well.
