Essex County Cricket Club play their home matches at the Ford County Ground in the heart of Chelmsford.

Being one of the oldest country's oldest County Cricket sides, the club was formed in 1876. However, their first major trophy was not won until 1979, when they clinched the County Championship. Since then, they have gone on to win it a further five times, the last triumph being in 1992. 

A CookHowzatOther successes included three Friends Provident, (formerly Gillette, NatWest, C & G) Trophies, five Sunday League titles, and two Benson & Hedges Cup's. The only trophy not won by the club is the recently introduced Twenty/20 Cup, where they play under the name of Essex Eagles.

Famous players over the years have included english greats such as Graham Gooch, Nasser Hussain, Keith Fletcher, Ronnie Irani and Darren Gough. Amongst the overseas stars who have graced the County Ground are Allan Border, Mark Waugh, Ken McEwen, Grant & Andy Flower, Andre Nel & Danish Kaneria.

Like all counties, Essex Cricket Club also have regular cricket festival weeks. These are held at Colchester and Southend, both in August.
