Musical NotesThe Essex Chamber Orcheatra, known as ECHO, meets just three times a year for intensive rehearsals over a weekend which are normally held either at Audley End, Felsted or Colchester. These sessions are then closely followed by a series of concert performances held mainly throughout Essex.

First established in 1979, the Orchestra originally recruited players from the Essex Youth Orchestra once they had reached the age of 21. However, members are now drawn from residents of Essex, plus those who attend schools and colleges in the county.

Originally conceived as a chamber orchestra, ECHO has expanded its repertoire and now also performs Baroque and Classical works of the 20th Century.

Essex Chamber Orchestra will be celebrated its 30th birthday in September 2009 with a special concert in Christchurch, Chelmsford, featuring the highly acclaimed violinist, John Mills, and will feature Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
