Chelmsford Invitation League

Add News

Chelmsford Invitational League, or Chelmsford Invitation League to give it its correct title, consists of four divisions containing 36 football teams from the town and the surrounding area.

Founded in 1981, the Chelmsford Invitation League, the foundations were laid two years earlier when four teams got together on Sunday afternoons to play friendly matches. This number soon doubled and after a few attempts by some of the more ambitious teams to join one of the local Sunday leagues were rejected, the next step was to form a new league.

After naturally experiencing some early difficulties, The Chelmsford Invitation League has gone from strength to strength due to the fantastic support of all the teams and organisers, especially in the couple of seasons. Problems such as poor organisation, late kick-offs and not being able to obtain the services of official referees where prevalent, but led to a strong bond between the football teams and a high level of sportsmanship.

As mentioned, the Chelmsford Invitation League now has 36 local teams divided into four divisions. Premier Champions for season 2010/2011 were Wickford Town, Runwell & Bromford Reunion won Division One, Cowboys were top of the tree in Division Two, & Maldon & Tiptree Athletice were runaway winners of Division Three. In the League Cup, Runwell & Bromford Reunion completed the double and beat Premier champions Wickford 3-2 at Witham Football Club.

If you are looking for a club to play football in a Chelmsford or the surrounding area, why not join one of the clubs in the Chelmsford Invitation League. Teams come from all over the area, from such places as Bicknacre, Billericay, Writtle, Ingatestone, Boreham, South Woodham Ferrers, Hutton, Latchingdon, Maldon, Tiptree, and Mayland. Please contact the secretary Mick Kemp on 01245 476590 or 07546 361821.

Alternatively, the league are always looking for referees, so if you fancy a bit of sport officiating on a Sunday, why not get in touch? Please contact the Referee Appointments Secretary, Jeremy Mott on 01376 510322 or 07740 482595.
