Chelmsford golf courses cater for all standards of golfers, from those playing off a scratch or low handicap, to families who want a fun afternoon out. If you enjoy golf, be it on a tough 18 hole championship course, a shorter 9 hole course, a pitch and putt course, or a mini-golf course, then Chelmsford in Essex has just what you are looking for.

In addition to the Chelmsford Golf courses & clubs, there are a number of Golf Driving Ranges and Golf Academies for those looking to practice or improve their game. Professional coaching and advice from qualified PGA coaches is available from a number of the courses as well as golf lessons for the individual and in groups.

Most of the Chelmsford golf courses are open all year round, making it one of the few outdoor sports which you can play and not have to worry too much about the weather. However, it always advisable to check before you plan your round that the course is open to non-members and that there are no club tournaments or golfing societies booked with tee times unavailable.

Chelmsford Golf Courses

Channels Golf Course: Located at Belsteads Farm Lane in Little Waltham just north of Chelmsford, Channels has two courses totalling 27 holes. The first is the challenging Channels, which is 6,376 yards long and a Par 71. The second is known as Belsteads and is an easier 9 hole course, making a total of 4,779 yards, Par 63, when played over 18 holes. Channels Golf Course is built on a reclaimed gravel works and has an abundance of lakes and wildlife.

Chelmsford Golf Club: Located at Widford Road in Chelmsford, the Chelmsford Golf Club is a parkland course totalling 5,996 yards, Par 68. It is regarded as one of the best in the whole of Essex and is a 'must play' for the discerning golfer.

The Regiment Way Golf Centre: Located at Regiment Way in Chelmsford, opposite Channels Golf Course. This 9 hole, 2,500 yards, Par 32, flat parkland course is ideal for novices and beginners with a high handicap. The Regiment Way Golf Centre also has a 22 bay Driving Range, offers golf lessons, and has a small golf shop.

Hylands Golf Complex: Located off the Main Road in Margaretting, Ingatestone just outside Chelmsford, the Hylands Golf Complex is a Pay & Play facility with 27 holes spread over two courses. The 18 hole Hanbury Course is 6,604 yards and the shorter Pryors Course only 9 holes over 2,445 yds. Both are situated in stunning parkland in the middle of the Essex countryside.
The Hylands Park Golf Complex also features a Driving Range, Putting Green, and a fantastic Mini-Golf course with a specially created putting surface, along with rocks, bunkers, water hazards and even dog-legs.

West Park Pitch & Putt: Located in Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford opposite the fire station. The course is 18 holes, Par 54, within beautiful parkland and is the only Pitch & Putt Course Chelmsford has. You can choose between 9 or 18 holes, plus there is a crazy golf course, small golf shop, equipment hire, and kids PGA coaching. Please note that West Park Pitch & Putt Chelmsford does get very busy during peak times such as the school summer holidays and rounds can take a long time.

Three Rivers Golf & Country Club: Located in Cold Norton a short distance from Chelmsford and has a total of 27 holes. The main Kings Course is 18 holes over 6,449 yards, Par 72. The second is known as Jubilee and is an easier 9 hole course, making a total of 4,600 yards, Par 64, when played over 18 holes. Both courses at Three Rivers Golf & Country Club feature parkland with lakes, wooded copses and spectacular views.

Crondon Park Golf Club: Located in Stock a few miles from Chelmsford, Crondon Park boasts the longest golf hole in the world at 860 yards (18th). Its two courses are the Championship 6,627 yards, Par 72 & Willows Edge (Par 3) 927 yards, 9 holes, Par 27. Both are set in a beautiful parkland valley with lakes & trees. Crondon Park Golf Club also has a Driving Range and PGA Teaching Academy.

Stock Brook Golf & Country Club: Located in Stock near Billericay, a few minutes from Chelmsford, and has three 9 hole courses, known as Stock, Brook & Manor. Stock & Brook make up the 18 hole, 6,905 yards, Par 73 championship course. The Manor is 2,997 yards, Par 35. Other facilities at Stock Brook Golf & Country Club also include a driving range, putting green, and three Par 3 practice holes.

Tips for the Chelmsford Golfer

If you are serious about your golf, then you may need to take into consideration the following....

Outdoor Wear: Whilst most are fair-weather golfers, a number of die-hard golfers play come rain or shine. Being prepared for any weather conditions is extremely important, be it freezing cold or baking sun, so make sure you have appropriate outdoor leisure wear at all times. and don't forget your umbrella!

Golf Shoes: After your golf clubs, probably the most important piece of golfing equipment is your golf shoes. Make sure you have a pair that not fit well, but are 100% waterproof.

Golf Insurance: Accidents do happen, and if you hit someone with a golf ball and do them permanent damage, then golf insurance could save you a fortune. Premiums are not that expensive for a years cover so consider it carefully before venturing out on the course.

Golf Shops in Chelmsford: It's always a good idea to pay a visit to a local golf shop to get some professional advice on your golf. There are number of Chelmsford Golf Equipment & Supplies shops in the area which can offer specialist advice which a general sports goods shop could not.
