Chelmsford Crematorium, which will celebrate it's Golden Anniversary this year (2011), is run under the direct control of the Chelmsford Borough Council. Opened in November 1961 by the then Mayor, it now conducts over 2,200 cremations every year, and will be holding an Open Day later this year to mark its fifty years.
Situated one mile outside of the town centre in Writtle Road, Chelmsford Crematorium has excellent transport links and is easily accessible my both car and bus. Depending on traffic, the journey from the town centre should take around 10 minutes.
For those wishing to visit, both the Chelmsford Crematorium Grounds and the Memorial Chapel are open to the public every day of the year, along with floral tribute areas adjacent to the two chapels. Facilities include ample parking, a waiting room, and toilets with full disabled access.
There are also regular events held at the crematorium including the annual Christmas Memorial Service, which provides the opportunity to light a candle and remember loved ones at this special time.
