ABOUT US

Chelmsford City Ladies Football Club caters for girls and women from the age of 7 upwards. We are currently running six teams - U10s Development, U11s, U14s, U15s, Reserve Team and First Team. Our U11s, U14s, U15s and Reserves compete in the Essex County Women's and Girl's Leagues, whilst the First Team compete in the Eastern Region League. The U10 team are too young to play competitive football, but they play friendly matches on a regular basis, alongside football festivals organized by the Essex County Girl's League.

We are a friendly football club who will welcome any girl or woman who wishes to play football in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. All of our coaches have attended courses and gained their Level One Coaching Badge, and several of these coaches also have a Level Two Coaching Badge.

If you are interested in joining this friendly Charter Standard club with a fantastic reputation, please do not hesitate to call Dawn Barnard on 01245 284377. Whether you are a vastly experienced footballer or a complete beginner, we will be happy to have you on board.

Our prolific junior section has produced some outstanding talent over the years, with a great example being the young Darel Poole, who came through our junior ranks before being scouted for the England youth teams. Darel now plays in the Women's Premier League and has also featured for England U19s and captained England U17s. The majority of the players in our senior squads have come through from the junior teams, and a good number of these players have also gone on to represent the county squad. Within our junior section, there are a number of players who also play for a Center of Excellence because of their exceptional ability.

HISTORY

Chelmsford City were formed in 1986 and competed in a five-a-side League. In 1987 they formed a second team named ‘The Royals’ which also competed in the same competition, however, the competition folded and the two teams merged forming an eleven-a-side team. The Club entered the Greater London League in 1988 and finished as Runners-up in Division Three in their first season.

Only one of the original members still remains at the Club, General Secretary and Treasurer Dawn Barnard.

In 1992 there was sufficient interest for the Club to form a junior section, which has provided a number of players for the senior section over the years. The 1994/95 seasons saw them begin their most successful period to date when they won the inaugural Essex County Cup, Russell Cup and finished as Runners-up in Division Two in the same season as well as winning a number of 5-a-side tournaments during that summer.

The club continued to be successful and after making the switch into the Eastern Region League, won the Premier division Championship in 2000 and gained promotion to the South-East Combination League via the play-off system. During this time, the Club continued to be successful with the seniors, winning the Essex County Cup 5 times.

After two seasons, an exodus of 1st Team players during the summer of 2002 saw the committee make the decision to withdraw from the Combination League and start again with the Reserve Team becoming the 1st XI who were already competing in the County League.

2003/04 season saw a new era begin when under new management, the First Team immediately make an impact, becoming League Champions in the Essex County Women’s League and took the decision to move up into the Eastern Region League. They also reached the League Cup Final while the Reserves finished third in Division Two and were promoted into Division One. In the juniors, the Under 12’s were joint runners-up while the Under 14’s were League Champions in the Essex County Girls League.

2004/05 saw the 1st Team reach the Memorial Shield Final where they defeated AFC Kempston Rovers and consolidated their first season in the Eastern Region League by finishing a creditable mid-table position. The Reserves, now managed by Alan Harding won the Essex County League Fair Play Award and were also runners-up in the Essex County FA Fair Play.

Clare Andrews then took over the role as 1st XI Manager and has gelled a side containing a mixture of youth and experience and last season 2006/07; saw her side win the inaugural Essex County FA Women’s Charter Standard Tournament. They also were runners–up in Division 1 East, reaching the play-offs, eventually losing in the Final. They were also runners-up in the Division 1 East round robin plate.

Prior to the 2007/08 season they won The Mayador Cider Trophy Cup at Manchester Umbro International Cup and also retained the Essex County FA Women's Charter Standard Tournament. The domestic season for the first team reach the County Cup Final, losing 4 - 2 on Penalties after holding National League Colchester United 2 - 2 after extra time. They then clinched the Division 1 South title gaining promotion to the Premier Division. The U16s reached the Essex County Girls League Cup Final while the U12s were runners up in the League Spring Plate Completion.

Chelmsford City Ladies and Girls FC is a Charter Standard Club who are committed to improving the profile of Women’s and Girls football and look to provide the opportunity for females of all ages and ability to play football.

Chelmsford City Ladies & Girls Football Club - Latest Charity Project News

Club Secretary Dawn Barnard Donating on behalf of the football club, 15 complete old Chelmsford Ladies Kits to Afrikit co-director Elliot Bryan.

'Afrikit is a charity that originated from five friends, who study at the University of Sheffield back in October 2009. We all have an intense passion for football as well as helping others, and as a result Afrikit was born.'

The inspiration for Afrikit came from a close friend of ours whom recently visited a desperately poor village in rural Kenya on a Geography field trip and, he could not believe their obsession with the beautiful game. He arrived wearing a Manchester United Shirt, and was immediately surrounded by local kids and adults in the village. However, despite their great knowledge and interest in the game, he noticed that very few kids owned football shirts of their own.

This story inspired us to try and recreate that buzz and excitement, by giving kids and adults the opportunity to own their own football shirts and become the footballers they dream of being.

If anyone wishes to donate there Football Shirts to this wonderful Charity, Please go to there web site www.afrikit.co.uk

This web site has all the information that is need to make your donations.

PLEASE, PLEASE SUPPORT THIS CHARITY, WE HAVE ALREADY DONATED 15 COMPLETE KITS, BUT THEY NEED MORE.

If you have any shirts and boots you wish to donate please contact Lisa Cansell, lcansell003@yahoo.co.uk.
