Chelmsford Christmas Lights 2011 Switch OnChelmsford Christmas Lights 2011 Switch On will be taking place on Sunday 27th November 2011 and once again promises to be the highlight of the town's festive celebrations.

The event will begin at 12 noon and culminate with the now traditional annual fireworks display following the Chelmsford Christmas Lights Switch On at 4.45pm. In between, as in previous years, there will be lots of entertainment & festive fun for all the family such as choirs and brass bands, as well as stalls selling traditional Christmas fare such as mulled wine and mince pies.

The theme for the Chelmsford Christmas Lights Switch On in 2011 is ‘fairy tale adventure', which is in keeping with the Chelmsford Pantomime this year of Sleeping Beauty, and members of the cast will be in attendance. Children are encouraged to attend the event in fancy dress with competitions for the best dressed. Local radio station, BBC Essex will also have a variety of acts appearing on their stage to keep everyone entertained.

Other highlights of the event will include the return Santa's reindeers to Backnang Square, a large screen enabling spectators to watch the stage show from distance, an information point to assist with what's on, where & when, as well the Singing Stars competition. On top of that, it is rumoured that Father Christmas may make an appearance himself!

In a change to previous years, the main stage will be situated outside Chelmsford's Shire Hall. This will enable those who also wish to shop for Christmas presents a less restricted path through the town centre and easier access to the shops.

Latest News: According to The Meadows Shopping Centre website, Peppa Pig and her brother George will be switching on the Chelmsford Christmas Lights this year. Please be advised that this has not yet been confirmed by Chelmsford Council (as at 7th November 2011.
