Chelmsford Bus Routes are run and maintained by First Essex Buses Ltd, which are part of the nationwide bus operating company, First Group. Overall the company runs over 70 services within Essex, with a large number starting and terminating in Chelmsford due to its position in the centre of county.
The Chelmsford bus routes provide a vital service for all sectors of society including commuters, shoppers, office workers, town visitors and university students, to name but a few. Chelmsford as a whole, and most importantly the local economy, depends on a regular, reliable and well run bus service which the majority of the time is what is provided.
With the Chelmsford Bus Station being located a few minutes walk from the centre of the town and adjacent to the Chelmsford Railway Station, it is in a position to offer services to virtually anywhere in the county of Essex and beyond. Such destinations as Stansted Airport, Hylands House, Southend, Maldon, Colchester & Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock are all available via direct routes. There are also frequent services to local villages such as Danbury & Writtle, to popular living areas in Chelmsford such as Galleywood, Beaulieu Park, Moulsham Lodge, Maltings Estate, Tile Kiln, Chelmer Village, Springfield and Melbourne, plus several buses to Broomfield Hospital providing a vital link for both patients and visitors alike.
A recent addition to the Chelmsford Bus service has seen a second Park & Ride scheme being opened in Chelmer Valley, on the opposite side of the town to the original scheme in Sandon Park & Ride which started operating five years ago. Open since April 2011, Chelmer Valley Park & Ride has already proved popular with local commuters and shoppers and reduced the amount of traffic entering Chelmsford, particularly at peak travel times.
