3foot People Festival ChelmsfordThe 3foot People Festival in Chelmsford is a fantastic annual event for children under five years of age. Held over three days in the first week of July in Chelmsford's Central Park, children have the chance to take part in workshops, enjoy shows, sing, dance, and listen to stories being told.

Since its inception in 2005, the 3foot People Festival has been attended by thousands of young children, parents & carers and continues to get bigger each year. All activities provided are specially chosen for the very young and according to the organisers, Chelmsford Borough Council, it is the only event of its type anywhere in the UK.

This year's 3foot People Festival in 2011 will be held on 29th June -1st July, between the hours of 0930 - 1500. The event is always a sell out and it is advised that you should purchase within 24 hours of them going on sale to avoid disappointment. Tickets are usually available at the end of May/ beginning of June each year - the latest updates on this year's event will be published in our News section as soon as we get them.


What's On

A new year brings new exciting activities at the 3foot People Festival in Chelmsford. The past six years have been a huge success and have included some of the following magical events....

Music & Movement
There are some fantastic sessions to take part in if your child likes to sing, dance, or just burn off a bit of excess energy, such as Jo Jingles, Talking Tots, Sing and Sign, Musical Minis, Yogabugs, & Disco.

Shows
Take time out and have a rest by enjoying one of the Puppet shows, Plays, or even the fantastic Mad Science demonstration. In 2006, Linton Zoo even brought a selection of their animals including a rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, reptiles, and a giant tortoise.

Storytelling
Children love stories, and the 3foot People Festival provides numerous opportunities for them to listen to a story being read. Sometimes, the story is read by the actual author of the book and there is a chance for the children to ask questions afterwards.

Workshops
If your child is creative or just loves making things, try out one of the workshops on offer. Past events have included arts & crafts, jewellery making, & puppet making. And best of all, there's no clearing up afterwards.

Other Activities Around the Festival
Other facilities that have been enjoyed by past visitors around the festival include a soft play zone, a giant sand pit, a mini farm, Quercus Metalicus water tree, sports area, acrobats, jugglers, face painting, mobile entertainers, & The Tiny Travelling Tight Wire show.

For the Adults
Whilst the main event if for the kids, the adults are not left out either and you are encouraged to take an active part in any of the sessions if you wish. In addition, there are also a number of organisations on hand to give parenting advice and guidance.


Facilities

Like all major events which attract a crowd of thousands, the 3foot People Festival has excellent facilities. Included are toilets, refreshment stands, bottle warming facilities, lost and found station, and most importantly for the adults, a dedicated space where you can take a time out from all the fun and games.

 

How to Get There

Central Park Chelmsford

The 3foot People Festival is held in Central Park, Chelmsford, and like the name suggests, is in the centre of the town. Its exact location can be found opposite the Ford County Ground, home of Essex Cricket Club, on the other side of the River Can and next to the A138 Parkway through the middle of Chelmsford.

Should you be arriving by bus or train, then both stations are less than a ten minute walk. If you are driving, then there are several car parks in Chelmsford, with the High Chelmer Mutli-Storey being the closest and actually overlooking Central Park. Use Postcode CM1 1LU in your SatNav.

When Is It?

This years 3foot People Festival in Chelmsford will take place on the 29th, 30th, & 1st July 2011, between the hours of 9.30am and 3.00pm.


Tickets

Tickets for the 3foot People Festival normally go on sale around the last week in May or the first week in June. In the past, tickets have cost £5 for adults and children between ages 2-5, and £1 for younger children. Tickets prices for 2011 have yet to be confirmed by Chelmsford Borough Council.

The past couple of years have seen a complete sell out on the first day so it is advisable buy your tickets as early as possible.

Tickets are normally on sale at the Chelmsford Theatre Box Office based in Fairfield Road, or online via the Council's website.

Central Park in Chelmsford - About

Opened in 1894, and one of the oldest in Chelmsford, Central Park is a delightful expanse of over 35 acres of parkland. Linked by a cycle paths & walkways, Central Park also encompasses other notable areas including the Marconi Ponds Nature Reserve, Sky Blue Pasture, & Bell Meadow.

Visitors to Central Park in Chelmsford can expect to enjoy the colourful gardens, walking by the River Can, a children's play area, and a model railway. For those of the more sporting persuasion, there are also tennis courts, a bowling green & bowls pavilion, a skateboarding ramp, and excellent coarse fishing in the lake.

In addition to the 3foot People Festival, there are also other events held in Central Park throughout the year, such as regular Heart and Soul Health Walks, greyhound walks, fireworks displays, and the exercise class known as Essex Boot Camp.
